Objective: Aneurysm surgery is to secure the aneruysm sac and prevent the bleeding and vasospasm. Guglielmi Detachable Coils (GDCs) is usually used to treat aneurysms in locations such as paraclinoid or posterior circulation.
Materisals and methods: We have treated 16 patients with GDCs embolization bitween January, 1996 to November, 2003. All patients were females, ages ranged from 60 to 72 years (mean 69.8 years), Initial symptoms were hemorrhage in 9 and incidental findings in 7. The locations of the aneurysm were basiliar bifurcation in 8, paraclinoid of internal carotid arlery in 5, and vertebral arlery in 2.
Results: Of the 16 aneury attempted by GDC embolization, all aneurysms were successfully ureated. The Follow-up periods ranged from 1 to 54 months (mean: 12.4 months). The angiographic results were complete ocelusion(99~100%) in 5 cases, greater than 90% ocelusion was seen in 2 cases(12.5%)
Conclusion: Endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms by using GDCs provided excellent results in paraclinoid andcurysm, postcrior circulation ancurysm, and cavernous internal carotid arlery aneurysm.
